As a low pressure system is fast approaching us, today seemed like a good day to spend time at the park. Not any old park but one that the girls love and can spend hours running around making friends and wearing themselves out.
Quite often I run into people that I knew pre-kids and we get talking about how our lives have changed and discuss the kids. Other days I like to just 'parent watch' and just see how other parents interact with their kids their level of 'enthusiasm'. When I am tired, it can be my saviour, it is a place to take the kids so they can let off their steam and I can keep an eye on them while we all enjoy some fresh air.
I do remember the old parks with the wooden see-saw that banged down so hard if the other person left their side or the monkey bars that left rust marks on your hands. There was no soft fall ground cover or shade sails, it was hard core compared to what the kids are afforded now.
I didn't really see the point of parks before kids came along...and didn't know the best ones within a 50km radius either. I do now!
Thank goodness for parks, they really are worth their weight in gold and I couldn't imagine bringing up my kids without them. Sure, some days I feel like it could be the last place on earth that I want to go but I do love the look the girls get when they see one (if I want them to see it..) and how much pleasure they get from being in their 'happy place'.
Do you remember the park when you were younger? What comes to mind first?
