I took a look around the house the other day and it occurred to me that I have fallen prey to the world of technology. Now this is not something I am proud of, nor do I ever try to keep with up 'the Jones' but it has just ...happened.
I walked around with camera in hand and snapped every media device that allows us to get on the net. There were 2 laptops, a desktop, iPad, iPod touch and of course 2 iPhones.
This mini apple explosion has only happened in the last couple of months and I am not sure if it's a good thing or not.
I don't want to turn into a mother that always has her head stuck in some device and not interacting with the kids. The temptation is there... believe me, but it's not the example I want to set in front of them. I am really enjoying my experience of blogging and staying in touch with friends but I need to be wary of drawing a line in the sand.
When we went to the park the other day, I looked around and there were young mums flicking through iPhones, texting, talking. Then there was a grandmother just sitting, reading a novel. Is this the same? Both are reading, catching up in a way. Have we really changed or just sidestepped into a modern way?
It boggles me to think what our kids will be linked up to in say, 20 years time. I wonder if I be the grandma flicking through my obsolete iPhone or moving with the changes....scary thought!
* I wrote this post just before I heard the death of Apple whizz Steve Jobs, so in memory, thank you Steve for your amazing innovations.
