I usually don't watch a lot of TV at night but I enjoy documentary style shows and there are two starting this week that I am tuning into.
The first one starts on Wednesday 5th October, SBS at 8.30pm called One Born Every Minute. I watched this series last year after a recommendation from a friend and loved it. It is set inside a English maternity hospital (not a fancy shcmancy one like we are used to in Australia) and explores pregnancy and birth from a personal view of the women inside the hospital.
The series apparently involved 40 cameras to take viewers behind the scenes in the maternity ward, operation theatre and birthing pools to show all aspects of bringing a new life into the world.
It can get quite graphical at times but it leaves you with a strong feeling of what it is really like. I had only just had my 2nd baby at the time of the last series so I was relative but I am looking forward to watching it again.
The second show starts on the 6th October on ABC at 8.30pm called The Slap.
I have heard mixed reviews over this one but am going to make my own decision with it.
The show examines how a bunch of lives are affected by an incident at a 40th birthday barbecue in which a man, slaps a misbehaving, unrelated little boy. It is based on Christos Tsiolkas’ bestselling book and is a 8 part series.
The story is told through the eyes of 8 characters as the show sees the parents of the boy take the man to court and how each person that attended the party is affected somehow as they are forced to look at themselves.
If the story line is not great hopefully the cast will make up for it with Johnathon LaPaglia, Anthony Hayes, Melissa George, Alex Dimitriades and Sophie Lowe.
Are you looking forward to any shows this week? Have you heard or watched these shows before? What did you think?
