On Saturday night we headed into 'town' to explore our own city. We don't tend to venture up the north end of the coast much these days, so we decided to play tourist for the night and have a mini staycation.
Surfers Paradise is only about 20 minutes drive from our house (such a long way..not) but for some reason it is known as a tourist mecca rather than a locals hangout. Their have been a lot of face lifts taking place with the Hilton replacing the old Dolphin Centre and Soul revamping the esplanade.
My surf club is in fact Surfers Paradise, where I remember spending many hours patrolling the beach and keeping the Japanese out of trouble. These days though I am a life member and will always have a strong connection to Surfers Paradise through this
It does tend to have the holiday fever feel as you are walking around the streets and arcades which is kind of refreshing, though the best part was packing up knowing we only had a 20 minute drive home.....
