I had all intentions for the weekend to be relaxing, catch up on a few things, lots of family time and what ever comes our way. Well, this is what happened
I woke early Saturday and went for a ride with some girlfriends, weather was perfect and nice to be catching up and getting some fresh air and exercise. Ready to start the weekend
My husband was keen to take my eldest daughter on a camping trial for the first time, so while he took the girls south I used the time to clean the house, get all the little things done, put things back in their rightful place, wipe skirting boards, bleach toilet brushes (am I the only freak that does this?) and that kind of thing.
On my way down South to meet up with the family, I sneaked in a spot of shopping and fell in love with these little gems...and some.
I wasn't even thinking of posting about my weekend, hence why most of these shots are taken from my husbands phone, this was the best he could come up with of our dinner at the campground, Ella is already tired.
This is where the good bit starts....I took our youngest home to stay at Andrew's parent house and left husband and daughter to bond on their first night camping, this shot was taken at 7.30pm. Now, I don't know if we left our run too late to introduce camping but my girls both have always been very 'aware' sleepers - don't sleep in prams, only when they are totally comfortable with their own surrounds. Ella did not sleep. Andrew did not sleep. Bit of a comedy act apparently. These are some of Ella's musings.
"Daddy, I haven't heard these people talking before, I better pop out and see who they are"
"Daddy, there is a baby crying, maybe it is Summer?"
"Can I go and play with the other kids"
"I have a tummy pain, I think I need to do a poo"
at 4.10am
"Daddy, it is daytime, can I go out and play?"
Photo taken 5am, and they weren't the only "dad with kids" wandering around aimlessly.
My husband vows to never
Put a tent up until the girls are at least 10 years old.
Never pitch a tent under a tree where bats congregate.
Don't put the tent on the campsites main access road or near caravans and motorhomes with old people who seem to have a million doors to shut before going to bed OR
Near other campers who are heavy snorers who he said sounded like husband and wife talking to each other. OR
In proximity of other families with young kids, and the coaxing of trying to get them to bed and the tantrums to follow.
So, all in all it was good to try something different, don't know if you don't try hey?... expose Ella to something new and know that in the future, apartments are our accommodation of choice. (YAH!)
Tell me, do your kids take to camping? What have your experiences been like?
