Who wouldn't want to look like this? |
I was sick the whole way through with both pregnancies, so exercise was non existent. I learnt what it was like to NOT be fit and yes it is hard work to get back from. I enjoyed the challenge of getting strong again and trying to loose the baby fat- sure my body shape has changed but I'm cool with that.
This time around I tried The Tracy Anderson Method, trainer to celebs like Gwyneth (her business partner), Nicole Ritchie, Jennifer Lopez, Giselle and it has been amazing! She has a collection of DVDs which are based on dance cardio and muscular structure work (yes me dancing with my two left feet!). She insists on consistency which is not easy with kids but is my goal everyday.
It involves 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of pilates/ballet/yoga type moves that work the 3 A's...abs, arms and ...butt. My Tracy addiction first started after having my 2nd child last year with the post pregnancy workout DVD and was hooked. I have now completed my first 90 day Metamorphosis and moved onto continuity where she sends me new workouts to do every 10 days.
It is different to any other form of exercise I have done, which targets what Tracy calls the 'accessory muscles', the smaller muscle groups. Her theory is that if you keep working the larger muscles they add bulk which is fine with me because all I have to do is look at a weight and I build muscle. She does not like to lift anything other bodyweight or 1kg's but a warning, it is high repetitions which burn baby burn.
I mix the cardio dance up with standup board paddling, running, spinning, surfing and swimming anything that takes my fancy when I get the opportunity to escape.
I am a better mum if I exercise,I can deal with the day better and my husband knows how to keep his wifey happy by giving me the time!
How do you destress from the day? What makes you feel good and a better person? What are your favourite workout DVD's?
