Chillin' and SUP'ing at Coolum

It has been a while since we've had a weekend away as a family so for a change of scenery  we packed our bags and headed north to Coolum for a couple of nights.  Coolum is on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane.  It's a great place to take the kids with plenty of family friendly cafes, safe beaches and great accommodation options (this sounds like an ad, huh).

Did I forget to mention that it also happened to coincide with a SUP race?  Ok, that may be the main reason we went up there but don't tell the kids....The Ocean Addicts Power of the Paddle race was held in conjunction with the Goldendays music festival.  It was a technical race on standup paddle boards which you race to complete a course around buoys in and out of the surf (about 8km all up).

It was a perfect size wave, and time to put some of my training to the test. It was nice to see a great turnout of women competing, all with their own goals whether it to win the race or just finish.

I love competing, sure the anxiety levels get up there pre race, but once the gun fires all the nerves disappear and it's all about testing your own limits.

Super stoked to cross the line in first, it was straight back into holiday mode with the family, enjoying the pool and chilling.  Sunday was my superfit dad's 76th birthday so we scooted home and finished off a great weekend with a BBQ and cake.  Happy Birthday Fos! xx

How was your weekend?  Did you get up to anything surf....or was it turf?
