Ah, Spring is in the air, actually feels like Summer right now so yesterday was a good time to strip the vege patch and plant our new crop for the warmer months.
I have always dreamed of having my own vege patch since I was little so when we found our dream house AND it had a designated area of raised vege beds I was in heaven! It was fairly overgrown but after a major cleanout we started from scratch and planted for the season ahead.
Yesterday we planted some corn, tomatoes, cucumber, gourmet lettuce, passionfruit and strawberries. We had success last year with a similar crop and was suprised at how easy it is to maintain. Not Don Burke by any means but starting from punnets rather than seed is foolproof. It is great for the kids to get out and dirty and they love watching the plants grow and eating when it ripens.
We have a compost bin which gets all our kitchen scraps so we throw that around the plants to help with the fetilizaton. Not sure where they have come from but the amount of worms inside is just amazing. There is something about getting in and getting your hands dirty that is so good for the soul and having our own 'little piece of the country' in our own suburban backyard.
I will keep you up to date with the growing process and sharing our final fruits of labour. A rewarding labour of love.
Do you have a vege garden? What are you growing at the moment or would love to grow?
