Leading into this past weekend, I admit I wasn't ready for what we were about to encounter. Bad weather, sure we can handle that, but this was a bit more than just bad weather, it was as close to cyclonic as I want to get!
Our house is situated on a wide canal facing east. The wind from ex tropical cyclone Oswald was hammering 50 + gusts of wind straight into the front of our house, which is mainly large glass panels. There wasn't much sleep happening last night with vibrations all through the house and what sounded like a train travelling over our roof. I would drift off to sleep, with earplugs in, only to be woken up by large gusts that felt could have peeled the roof off.

the hightide coming close to our doorstep |
The rain wasn't too bad, although it flooded the streets and caused a huge tide that came past our fence line, it was the wind that sent shivers due to the unknown ferocity it could bring. I have never experienced wind like it and can now fully appreciate what it must be like to endure a cyclone and it's strength. Petrifying to say the least.

waves in the canal! |
Even though the worst seems to have past, it is still super windy but thank goodness coming from the north so not as full on frontal as last night. High tides are still a concern but we still have at least a metre to spare before it comes into the house.

neighbours fence blown over |
It is hard to get our heads wrapped around school starting tomorrow for the first time. With trees down everywhere and power lines cut I'm a little apprehensive sending Ella for the first time. Fingers crossed that the skies open up in the morning...

getting blown away |
If your down south of the Australian eastern coastline and in the firing line of cyclone Oswald, good luck over the next few days.
