While this is all good to begin with it can quickly lead to disgruntlement as we realise that us females have to work harder to get the same results as our men.
It doesn't have to be a dampener on your efforts to get fit and healthy though, as long as you realise that you can't go to the gym, do the same kind of sessions and then eat the same amounts of food and expect the same results. It just ain't gunna happen.
I think this has to do with a few reasons
+ Our resting metabolic rates are 5-10% lower than that of a man's. So even when we're not working out, they are burning more kilojoules just by doing nothing.
+ Since our bodies naturally produce lower levels of testosterone it has been proven in studies that we have to workout ten times harder to get the same results in the gym than a guy....hence why it can be difficult for females to build muscles like men.
+ Guys have a larger lung capacity which helps them to go harder, longer in certain conditions such as high altitude or harsh temperatures
+ Females tend to associate getting fit with aerobic work like walking, dancing and swimming whereas males tend to head straight to the gym to pump iron which in turn leads to an increase in lean muscle mass which turns up our metabolism furnace
+ When it comes to food, us females are an emotional bunch and we tend to use it to solve the problems of the world..(c'mon we all do it) whereas men have more willpower and find it easier to stick to something they set their minds to.
+ In regards to goals and setting the bar high, females can be a little overzealous which makes it hard to achieve anything which leads to failure whereas guys usually have better body image to begin with so it isn't a huge overwhelming stress that takes over their lives.
Sounds unfair huh?...Well yeh, it kinda is but in saying that I am putting it out there that I think females are able to deal with the stresses, of training consistantly harder than men just because we are genetically programmed to do so. We are naturally more flexible to perhaps the subtleness allows us to back up without too much trouble.
